1997 Hyundai Accent
The 1997 Hyundai Accent is a 2-door hatchback and 4-door sedan; 5 passenger capacity.
Minor front-end styling revisions are the only changes for 1997. The entry-level
Accent replaced the Excel in 1995 and a GT hatchback model was added in 1996.
Both L and GL sedans and hatchbacks have a 92 horsepower 1.5 liter four cylinder
engine with a single overhead camshaft and three valves per cylinder.
The Accent GT has the same engine with dual overhead cams and 105 horsepower.
Both engines are fuel-efficient, offering up to 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers
(49 mpg) on the highway. All Accents have a fully independent suspension, which
provides surprisingly nimble handling. Base hatchbacks don't have air bags or
power steering but they are available as options.
